AI assistants now cite warranty and return facts inside buying answers

A quiet but consistent pattern across late-2026 AI shopping answers: assistants are increasingly pulling warranty and return-policy facts into ordinary buying answers, not just into "return policy" queries. A shopper asking "is this a good deal on a refurbished laptop?" now gets an answer that folds in "it comes with a 1-year warranty and a 30-day return window"—pulled from whichever page states those facts plainly.

What changed

Earlier assistant answers treated policy pages as a separate topic, reached only when a shopper explicitly asked about returns. Increasingly, the assistant retrieves policy facts as part of a product-worth-it judgment, because warranty length and return terms are exactly the kind of risk-reducing facts a shopper weighs before buying. That moves policy content from the footer into the answer.

Why most stores are invisible to this

The failure mode is familiar: policies exist, but as a long legal page that never states a clean, dated fact. "We stand behind our products" is not quotable. "1-year manufacturer warranty, 30-day returns, buyer pays return shipping over $50" is. Assistants quote the second and skip the first, which means a store with a strong policy can still lose the citation to a store that simply states its terms clearly.

The practical implication

Treat warranty and return terms as structured, per-product facts rather than a single sitewide legal page. State the duration, the coverage, the return window, and who pays shipping, in text, near the product—and mark it up. When the facts are clean and attributable, the assistant can include them in the buying answer.

Visora's take

Policy facts are the most under-optimized citation asset in ecommerce. They are low effort to state and high value to be quoted, because they appear inside purchase-decision answers rather than only in support flows. If you are not sure whether your warranty and return terms are stated as quotable facts, a free scan at /audit will show you what an assistant can and cannot read from your pages today. No one can guarantee a citation—but you can make sure the fact is there to be cited.
